Jake's Cochlear Implant Surgery

This post is sooooo late! I am going to get it up before I head back down to San Diego tomorrow for the next step of Jake's magical mystery ride.
On December 29Th I drove down to San Diego so I could babysit the dogs while Jake had his Cochlear Implant surgery. Because Guinness has just gone through surgery just a couple days before to get a seed out of his intestines he wasn't feeling very well.
Jake was so happy the day before we wished we didn't have to put him though all this but know it is for the best. Bailey looks content doesn't she.

Mattie & Jake

Bailey.

Poor Guinness with his halo on. Paul wanted to know if Jake was going to have to wear a halo also!!

'I'm trying to be brave!" He was very good for just having major surgery. I would have complained a lot more!!

Wednesday morning started early with Jake and parents getting to the hospital at 6 am. Jake couldn't have anything to eat before the surgery but it wasn't quite as bad and they were thinking it would be. He went back for the surgery at 7:30ish and was in all day. I think he got out of surgery around 3 p.m.
Here he is right after he got home that evening. It was a out patient surgery believe it or not!

Still kind of "out of it" . Getting his pj's on.

Sleeping with a worried daddy.

Thursday morning he woke up with a smile on his face! I guess it didn't last all day but it was great to see.

Happy little boy playing with his toy food that he loves!

Staying pretty close to mom and dad in the morning.
Well, this is all old news to everyone but I thought I would share the pictures anyway.
In two days he goes in for his Activation. That should be very exciting. If you wonder what it will be like do a search on Youtube under cochlear implant activation. There you will see several and how the kids react when they first "hear" something.
I will try and post more about that Soon.

Jake's First Birthday!

Jake has turned one year old already!!! How fast this year has gone. On February 16th, one day before his "real" birthday we had his birthday party at our home. It was a festive, fun party full of BBQ, and cake and ice cream. We had a full house with his three sets of grandparents, his Aunt Janet, Uncle Jim and friends.

Jake using Daddy as a pull up station. He is getting real good at getting around now. Wasn't quite walking but crawling everywhere and getting into lots of great stuff. Ah, what a fun life!!

Yup, you build them up and I will knock them down!! Fun times. (Mr. B in the back staying safely on the couch!! He likes to watch Jake but isn't too sure about him!!)

No blog about Jake would be complete with out a food picture!! Here he is just waiting for more! Isn't he just so cute you could eat him up??

Lisa found a cake company in Newbury Park on the Internet. What did we do before Google? The cake was great looking and I heard great tasting.

What party is complete without Balloons?

Guinness checking out the seating arrangements before the party. Was he wondering were the most food would be dropped?

The beautiful punch bowl. Lisa thought of everything.

Steve and Lisa ordered the food from one of their favorite local restaurants, Bandits. There was quite a spread of BBQ and salads.

Jake holding court over the dinner.

Jake "walking" over to mommy.

Chelsea with baby Zane. He slept most of the party. So little, so cute.

Oh boy, presents! Opening Jim's present. He didn't get very far with the opening part of it but he loved all the attention he was getting.

"I don't know what is going on but I have one my personal servants doing the work. That is who those two people that live with me are aren't they?"

"What do you think mom? Is it me?"

"Oh yes, Life Is Good!!"

Blocks to build with and to eat.

The cake and candles.
Make a wish and blow them out.
Our wish to you Jake is years and years of happiness and love.

Cake all gone!! Where is more?

The weather was Rain, Rain, Rain. It must have rained more that day then any other day this year. The birds were everywhere, filling all the feeders. That is until the Cooper's Hawk flew through in the late afternoon looking for lunch. After that we didn't see a bird for a long time.
All in all it was a magical day. Good food, good company and a wonderful reason to get together!!
*
Happy Birthday, Jake
and
Many, Many more!! We love you!!

San Diego Weekend Visit

After weeks of looking for granite and tile and all the other things that go into getting the new kitchen ready we were Finally able to take a weekend off to go and see the kids in S.D. We left Saturday morning and stayed overnight with them. I really was having Jake withdrawals so it was great to finally get down there.
One of the first things we did was go out to lunch at Islands. Here are a few pictures from the restaurant .

"All right, food!! My favorite. What are we ordering Mom? "

"I'm so excited!! Maybe a big hamburger would taste good right now!"

"Ah, Waiter? I think you forgot to take my order. Don't listen to those two, I don't think I want "baby food" today. Can't you see how big I am already?"

Back home after lunch, sitting in his high chair eating (mashing) a teeth biscuit.

Gee, another picture that involves food. Why am I not surprised!! Jake loves his food. Here is the whole family eating a banana. Guinness is hoping for some too!!

Happy Jake with his daddy.
Steve and Lisa cooking dinner. They fixed a roast and made BBQ sandwiches with it. I heard they were wonderful. They also made corn and sweet potato fries. I know those were wonderful. I really enjoyed the sweet potatoes. That is going on the "to be cooked in the new kitchen" list. They were so easy to cook but so goooood!! I finished those up!!

Looks pretty professional doesn't it!!

Sunday morning bright and early and happy. Still in his cute little sleeper.

Jake and Steve.
All in all a quick trip but a great one. It is so good to see them. It has been two months since we were down there last so Jake had changed a lot. He is interacting with everyone so much more. He is sitting up by himself and "talking" a lot too. He is just so kissable! He is growing into his cheeks now but they are still the best things in the world to kiss!!
